The truth about winter, I should have been a bear.

What about winter? Are you guys fans or naw?  I wish I was a bear and could go into hibernation.  Just miss the whole event.  Would I even be missing anything? Cold, damp misery.  But maybe you love it? And I am just spewing all this winter negativity.  My mom loves winter.  A friend of mine loves winter.  Okay, that’s two people.  And I think that sums it up. But these winters in Florida, yeah I could do without.

I have no tolerance for the cold.  My feet go numb, my fingers go numb.  In the winter my fingers get these knots on them.  According to my googling, they are chilblains.  Remember, I am not a person who cares to seek out medical help.  I will just stick with the google search. And nine times out of ten, I get it figured out.

Fat fingers problems

Chilblains (CHILL-blayns) is a condition that causes inflamed swollen patches and blistering on the hands and feet. It’s caused by exposure to damp air that’s cold but not freezing. Symptoms may show up a few hours after being in the cold.  This is Mayo clinic information. You can read the entire article here. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/chilblains/symptoms-causes/syc-20351097

Chilblains can be prevented by limiting your time in the cold, dressing warmly and covering exposed skin. If you do get chilblains, keeping the skin warm and dry can help ease the symptoms.

Chilblains, also known as perniosis, usually clears up in 2 or 3 weeks, especially if the weather gets warmer. You may get the symptoms each cold season for years. I hate them.  Did I mention that already? They are sore, swollen knots. Like serious fat finger problems.  My rings don’t even go on my fingers they are so fat.  But as soon as it warms up, back to normal.

I am in Florida.  The Sunshine State. I could not even imagine being somewhere where there are “real” winters.  Not to downplay a Florida winter, our winters are real, and it gets cold and damp here.  I think it is the dampness that does me in. But there is no snow. And we still have the sun on most days. Why am I whining so much?

It doesn’t get to be this miserable cold until the new year comes around.  Wow. Happy New Year! Now your feet are frozen and your fingers are swollen! It is the months of January and February and sometimes we can group March into the misery.  November and December still have some warm days to them.  I don’t want to fast-forward time, but could we move past the winter?  This is why I believe hibernation is the only option for me.

Winters in Florida

Am I being dramatic? Should I be adding more people to the “love winter” list? Tell me what there is to love about it? Maybe I can turn my negative thoughts around.

The kimchi experience continues.  I don’t have much data to report at this time, as I feel like a week is such a short period of time to have any real results.
